Amsterdam Trip 2006

We still talk about all the fun we had in Amsterdam and how inspiring it was. We went in March of 2006 and fell in love with how the city was completely filled with bicycles and tulips. We had gone to get inspired for our Spring 2007 collection called "Kiss me Quick in Amsterdam" and to this day we are still inspired by how grungy yet desirable this colorful city is. We long to go back!! (Cue the Music!) We went to the most fabulous flea market called Waterlooplein . Its an outdoor Flea Market and we found 2 pairs of kick ass motorcycle boots that we still wear to this day! We wish we bought that leather jumpsuit in the picture hanging on the tree below because our current "wish" piece is a vintage black leather jumpsuit! We spent four hours in the Eyeglass Museum called the Brilmuseum . We both got these strange amazing black frames from the 50's! Most of all, we fell in love with Herman Brood's paintings. He was known as the Elvis of Amsterdam and for his music and his rock star bad boy antics. While we were there, we listened to his music which jumpstarted his career as an artist, called Cuby and The Blizzards. They are one of our favourite bands and you can only get their earlier Cd's off eBay.

Beckerman D.I.Y Heart Jean Shorts

Presenting The Beckerman Bite Plate D.I.Y (Do it Yourself) Heart jean shorts! Inspired by the Marc Jacobs Andy heart handbag! Watch our Step by Step Video on how to make these Heart Lovin' shorts! xo Beckerman Girls

Step 1: Get a pair of great, old jeans you want to cut into shorts. Also get four different colors of denim (Acid wash, light grey, sky blue, dark blue) for cutting out heart patches.

Step 2:Make two sizes of hearts (out of cardboard) and trace them onto the back of the colorful swatches of denim you are going to use for the hearts. Make sure you trace the hearts on the back of the denim. That way when you cut them out the pen is on the back of the hearts, and not on the front of them.

Step 3: Lay the multi-colored hearts on denim shorts and pin them in their desired places.(Pull out the pocket bags so they don't get pinned down)

Step 4: Sew the hearts down with your sewing machine in a "V" like formation while taking out the pins as you go. If you don't have a sewing machine you can use fabric glue instead. Just make sure you use a lot of it! Trim threads on front and inside!

Step 5: Decorate one back pocket with hearts! Its okay if you sew it down and the pocket doesn't open!

Step 6: Voila! You are done! YAY! (watch the video for more details!)
